TONIGHT IS: Twelfth Night, the evening before the Epiphany, the date in Christian mythology on which the Three Wise Men visited the infant Jesus. Twelfth Night marked the end of medieval Christmas celebrations, and William Shakespeare invoked the bacchanalia of these festivities in his gender- bending mistaken- identity comedy of the same name... which may have actually been first performed on Twelfth Night, 1601.
